Col. Stephen M. Mounts

Deputy Assistant Director for Healthcare Operations

Colonel Stephen M. Mounts Colonel Stephen M. Mounts currently serves as the Deputy to Assistant Director, Healthcare Administration for Defense Health Agency. In this role, he serves as the principal advisor to the Assistant Director, Healthcare Administration on all health care delivery matters including health care facilities, implementing policy, procedures and direction that affect health care delivery and administration as well as provide cross-functional support to the Markets and managing the TRICARE Health Program.

Mounts was born at Mather Air Force Base, California and entered the Air Force in May 1992 as a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy. He was commissioned as a Medical Service Corps officer and completed the Health Services Administration Course in 1993.

Mounts is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and has successfully commanded twice at the squadron (O-5) level, once at the group (O-6) level, and served in multiple O-6 medical headquarters’ staff positions. He has experience in strategic planning, high reliability operations, patient safety culture, change management, resource management, medical logistics, health information systems, medical readiness, clinical engineering and force development.
