Healthcare facilities' sterile reprocessing departments handle thousands of reusable surgical instruments and devices—ranging from knife handles and forceps to arthroscopic shavers and fiberoptic endoscopes. Patients are put at risk for infections when dirty instruments from suboptimal reprocessing practices are used on them. Even if a soiled instrument is discovered before it is used on a patient, there can be procedure delays while the healthcare team waits for clean instruments.
During this webinar, staff at military treatment facilities (MTFs) and clinics will learn about common medical equipment reprocessing failures, strategies to improve their reprocessing practices, and collaborative efforts involving operating room, reprocessing, and quality management staff.
Speakers:
- James Davis, MSN, RN, CCRN, CIC, HEM, FAPIC, senior infection prevention analyst, ECRI Institute
- Chris Lavanchy, BSME, engineering director, Health Devices Group, ECRI Institute
