Documentation
The Installation Injury Report provides installation level information on the number, types, causes, and impact of injuries sustained by active component service members. The reports have been generated monthly since 2002 and reflect injuries at those installations with at least 1,000 person-years in the year prior.
The current report uses a 60 day incidence rule for similar primary diagnoses, based on the leftmost 3 digits of the ICD9-CM code and leftmost 4 digits of the ICD10-CM code. Injuries occurring during deployment periods are excluded. STANAG and Trauma Codes are used to categorize inpatient encounter manner and cause of injury. ICD9-CM E Codes and their equivalent ICD10-CM codes are used to categorize outpatient encounter manner and cause of injury. (See the list of qualifying ICD9-CM, ICD10-CM, and STANAG codes below)
Reports generated prior to 2015 utilized a slightly different methodology. These reports used a 30 day incidence rule and did not exclude injuries that occurred during deployment. They also used a slightly smaller list of qualifying ICD9-CM codes, see below). Therefore, data from these earlier reports are not directly comparable to the new reports.
