Col. (Dr.) Drew C. Baird

Director of Medical Education

U.S. Army Col. (Dr.) Drew C. Baird is the Director of Medical Education at Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center, Fort Cavazos, Texas, a position he has held since 2020. Dr. Baird is also an associate professor of family medicine at the Uniformed Services University School of Medicine, Bethesda, Maryland, and an associate site dean and adjunct clinical associate professor at the Texas A&M University School of Medicine, College Station, Texas.

Previously, Dr. Baird served as the Family Medicine Residency program director, the Family Medicine Residency associate program director, and the Family Medicine Residency Clinic officer in charge at Fort Cavazos, Texas. There, he also served as the chief medical officer of an 87-member Urban Augmentation Medical Task Force organized as part of the federal response to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Dr. Baird also deployed to Afghanistan as the battalion surgeon of the 1-187th Infantry Battalion of the 101st Airborne Division.

Dr. Baird attended family medicine residency training at Eisenhower Army Medical Center, Fort Eisenhower, Georgia, where he also served as chief resident. Dr. Baird received his medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was a distinguished honor graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York, where he received a bachelor of science in international and strategic history. Dr. Baird also graduated with Honors from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.

Dr. Baird has earned the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with one oak leaf, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, the Combat Medical Badge, and the Air Assault Badge. Dr. Baird is a member of the Order of Military Medical Merit, recipient of the 9A Proficiency Designator by the Army Surgeon General, and Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians.
