Program Description

The Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV), General Surgery Residency Program is a comprehensive five-year program that emphasizes all facets of surgical care, from diagnosis and preoperative planning to surgical execution, postoperative management, and follow-up care. The program offers five clinical years, with the option for one resident per year to pursue a dedicated research year between their second and third years to gain experience in clinical research, quality improvement, and trials. Our diverse teaching facilities provide residents with extensive exposure to the complexities of surgical patient care across a wide range of clinical scenarios. The program's primary teaching hospital is the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada, with additional rotations at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Mike O'Callaghan Military Medical Center, and Sunrise Children's Hospital, offering a well-rounded surgical education.
