Col. (Dr.) Sanjay Gogate

Chief of Aerospace Medicine Education

U.S. Air Force Col. (Dr.) Sanjay Gogate is the Chief of Aerospace Medicine Education Division, United States Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine, 711th Human Performance Wing, Air Force Material Command. Col. Gogate leads three branches and 26 personnel. He also oversees more than 125 Aerospace Medicine, Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, and Emergency Medicine Operational Graduate Medical Education Residents. Col. Gogate manages three Air Force Specialty Code awarding courses and more than 700 students a year attending a dozen aerospace courses.

Col. Gogate earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Nova Southeastern University in 1999. He completed a civilian residency in family medicine at Nova Southeastern University, Hialeah, Florida in 2002. After several years of private practice, Col. Gogate received a direct commission as a captain in the United States Air Force in 2004. Col. Golgate received his Master of Occupational Health degree in 2012 from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, Utah. He completed both an Aerospace Medicine Residency in 2013 and an Occupational Medicine Residency in 2014, both at the U.S. Air Force School of Aviation Medicine at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio. Additionally, he completed professional military education including U.S. Air Force Aerospace Medicine Primary Course, Air Command and Staff College, Air War College, American Association of Physician Leaders Certified Physician Executive credential, and Medical Capstone Program. He is quadruple board-certified in Family Practice, Aerospace Medicine, Occupational & Environmental Medicine, and Lifestyle Medicine.

Col. Gogate has served as U.S. Air Force chief flight surgeon, Aerospace Medicine Operations, and as policy division chief, Office of the Surgeon General, Headquarters U.S. Air Force. He led five branches and 55 personnel in the development and execution of Air Force and Space Force Aerospace Medicine policy, doctrine, and administration. Col. Gogate was the senior advisor to the Air Force Surgeon General, Chief of Staff of the U.S. Air Force, Secretary of the U. S. Air Force and Congress for the Aerospace Medicine Enterprise. As the Aerospace Operations Panel Chair, he managed a 212-million-dollar budget.

Col. Gogate’s awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, and Meritorious Unit Award.

Col. Gogate has served as the president of the Society of US Air Force Flight Surgeons in 2022-2023 and is a member of the American Osteopathic Association, Florida Osteopathic Medical Association, American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians, and the American College of Occupational & Environmental Medicine. He is also a Fellow of the Aerospace Medical Association.
