At-Home COVID-19 Tests

At-home COVID-19 tests are available!

  • At-home COVID-19 tests are tests that a person can take at home and get results without sending a sample to a laboratory for testing.
  • These tests are easy to use, produce rapid results, and can be bought over-the-counter if necessary.

For the most current guidance on when to take an at-home COVID-19 test and next steps based on the results of the test, visit the CDC’s website

At this time, TRICARE covers the cost of at-home test kits that are both FDA-approved and ordered by a TRICARE-authorized provider for a medically necessary purpose, such as exhibition of symptoms. However, there are other options for beneficiaries to get a free, at-home COVID-19 test if their provider does not order one for them. These options include the federal government, local government entities, or their local military hospital or clinic if they have tests available.

If a beneficiary tests positive for COVID-19, they should report their positive test results to their health care provider. The health care team will provide self-care actions the beneficiary can take at home or other possible treatment options.

Use these graphics to educate your patients on the importance of testing at home, where they can get a test, and how to report their positive test results to their health care provider.
