Dr. Lauren Thompson, Director, DoD/VA Interagency Program Office, presents a briefing on the current and future state of achieving interoperability between the Department of Defense, Department of Veterans Affairs, and private sector partners during the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society annual conference in Las Vegas, Nevada, March 3. Thompson provided an overview of the challenges for sharing data, the process the IPO uses to map business processes and determine how the data fits within the standards. Dr. Thompson was joined by Aimee Scanlon, the program manager for the Defense Medical Information Exchange (DMIX), and Dr. Brian Jones, the branch chief for User Integration, Defense Health Agency, to discuss how DMIX supports the efforts of making DoD and VA more interoperable and to provide a demonstration of the Joint Legacy Viewer.
