TRICARE Open Season

TRICARE Open Season is the annual period when TRICARE beneficiaries can enroll in or change their health care coverage for the next year. This year, TRICARE Open Season begins Nov. 8 and ends Dec. 13. Any enrollment changes made go into effect on Jan. 1, 2022. Open season applies to anyone enrolled in or eligible for a TRICARE Prime option or TRICARE Select.

TRICARE Health Plan Options

During Open Season, beneficiaries have three choices:

  1. Stay in their plan: Beneficiaries who want to stay in their current TRICARE health plan, don’t need to take any action. They'll continue in their current health plan through 2022—or as long as they’re eligible.
  2. Enroll in a plan: If a beneficiary is eligible for TRICARE Prime or TRICARE Select but not enrolled, they can enroll in a plan now.
  3. Change plans: If they’re already enrolled in a TRICARE Prime option or TRICARE Select, they can switch health plans and switch between individual and family enrollment.

Visit the TRICARE website for more information: Go to www.tricare.mil/openseason.

Dental and Vision Options

Some TRICARE beneficiaries may also be eligible for the Federal Employees Dental and Vision Insurance Program (FEDVIP), managed by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM). Eligibility depends on the beneficiary status. Beneficiaries must be enrolled in a TRICARE health plan to be eligible for vision coverage.

Federal Benefits Open Season runs concurrently with TRICARE Open Season, Nov. 8 – Dec. 13, 2021. Visit www.benefeds.com to check eligibility, compare FEDVIP plans and rates, enroll in a plan, and more. Plans and rates are available now.

Remember, those who are in a plan and want to stay in it, don’t have to take action.
