Definition

The process of reviewing, observing, and accepting responsibility for assigned personnel. The types of supervision are:1) indirect. The supervisor performs retrospective record review of selected records. Criteria used for review relate to quality of care, quality of documentation, and the authorized scope of practice. 2) direct. The supervisor is involved in the decision-making process. 3) verbal. The supervisor is contacted by phone or informal consultation before implementing or changing a regimen of care.
