Burn Center Education Programs

Format: Online

USAISR Burn Center Education Programs include:

Burn Management Seminar

A multidisciplinary approach to educate healthcare personnel regarding interventions, protocols, treatment modalities, and research and to address the psychosocial needs of burn victims.

Simulation Workshop

Water soluble hydrogels of alkali metal alginate and glycerine have been found to be excellent wound dressings. The gels dry to an adherent, non-toxic pliable protective film which can be removed by water-washing when desired. The gels are also compatible with medicaments and hence can serve as vehicles or carriers for medicament application to wounds as well as a protective cover.

Training Opportunities

The USAISR, JBSA Fort Sam Houston, Texas, conducts certain clinical activities in which physicians, registered nurses, licensed vocational nurses, rehabilitative services and respiratory therapy students in the educational program, if allowed to participate, can obtain clinical learning experience. An affiliation under a memorandum will benefit both parties by contributing to the educational preparation of a future supply of health care providers.

Advanced Burn Life Support Provider

An eight-hour course for physicians, nurses, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, therapists, and paramedics. The course provides guidelines in the assessment and management of the burn patient during the first 24 hours post-injury.

Exportable Education Programs

Available free of charge, at your location, for all levels of providers from first responder through physician.

Training for Civilians

Initial and Inhalation Management is designed for emergency section, surgical and burn critical care personnel. This lecture reviews the knowledge needed to confidently assess and care for burn patients in the first 24 hours after burn injury to include identification, prioritizing and treatment modalities.
