HCE Collaborative Auditory and Vestibular Research Network (CAVRN)

The Hearing Center of Excellence (HCE) maintains a group known as the Collaborative Auditory and Vestibular Research Network (CAVRN). This group brings together Department of Defense (DOD), Defense Health Agency (DHA), and Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) researchers who work to improve the hearing and balance health of active-duty service members and veterans. CAVRN members include:

  • Research laboratories
  • Medical treatment facilities
  • Research portfolio managers
  • Other DHA Centers of Excellence

The CAVRN serves as a forum for DOD, DHA, and VA investigators to share information about:

  • New and ongoing research
  • Occupational health initiatives
  • Innovations in clinical practice

CAVRN meetings offer unique opportunities to develop collaborative work. Attendees learn about expertise, facilities, and equipment across the field of military hearing and balance science. Research presentations advance understanding, spur innovation, and encourage interdisciplinary work to improve readiness, care, and quality of life for active-duty service members and veterans.
