Immunization standing orders are approved protocols that authorize appropriately trained health care personnel to assess patient immunization status and administer vaccinations without a written provider order or examination.
The purpose of this standing order is to reduce morbidity and mortality from influenza by vaccinating children and adolescents who meet the criteria established by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) and the Department of Defense (DOD).
This report updates the recommendations of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices concerning the use of seasonal influenza vaccines in the United States for the 2023-24 influenza season. Routine annual influenza vaccination is recommended for all persons aged ≥6 months who do not have contraindications.
