I retired from the Army in 2018, but here is my family prior to deploying to Afghanistan in 2010. As a mother serving our great nation, my children have witnessed firsthand the importance of protecting our freedoms. However, being away from my children due to my duties was difficult. Thankfully, many military family support programs and yellow ribbon events were available to assist. I always felt grateful knowing that my family, military colleagues, and friends were there to support me whenever I or my family needed it. I am currently active duty and the mom of two Air Force officers. Being a military mom has allowed my children to grow up in a military community where they saw how being a military member is about service, patriotism, and respect. I could not be more proud of them choosing to follow in the many footsteps of our family members by joining the military and to see how they are paving their own paths. It is a huge honor for me to serve alongside my two sons, Capt. Zachary Lewis, 8th Intelligence Squadron, Hickam Air Force Base, and 2nd Lt. Matthew Lewis, 47th Student Squadron, Laughlin Air Force Base. U.S. Air Force Col. Laura Lewis, Master Clinician, 95th Medical Group, Eglin Air Force Base.

I have been beyond fortunate to serving in the military, while being a wife and a mother to two beautiful children. Fulfilling both personal and professional goals have come at a cost to my family, but I have never felt that it wasn’t supported by them. The honor for me is to see how my son and daughter have faced challenges and made sacrifices and yet overcome and ultimately have become more resilient. We are all replaceable; mentoring those that are the future of the world’s greatest Air Force was a lot closer to home than I thought it would be. Our daughter is active duty now, and we are ready to watch her grow as an Airman and fellow Wingman. I am beyond proud of my family and ready to see how they lead their own legacy. Thank you for this opportunity to share this proud mom and honored Airman moment. U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Lacy Clemente, Dental Flight Chief, 51st Operational Medical Readiness Squadron, Osan Air Base, Republic of Korea.
