TRICARE Laboratory Developed Tests Demonstration Extended, Certain Tests Now Covered

The Defense Health Agency announced the five-year extension of the Laboratory Developed Tests Demonstration. The DHA extended the demonstration from July 19, 2023 through July 18, 2028. The DHA also announced that TRICARE will now cover several preconception and prenatal carrier screenings as part of the basic TRICARE benefit.

Nearly all military physical and field training exercises can enhance mental toughness and physical endurance, which researchers at the U.S. Army Medical Research and Development Command believe can prepare Warfighters for the future, they explained during a session on the final day of the 2023 Military Health System Research Symposium on August 17, 2023.

“It was surreal, it was unexpected,” said U.S. Army Reserve Spc. Ana Baker, a health care specialist, assigned to the 399th Field Hospital, 803rd Hospital Center. Baker was on a ride-along training with an emergency medical service while conducting a joint medical assistance operation with the Minnesota Army National Guard, when the ambulance got the call for help.

What started off as just another routine annual training quickly developed into something much more for a U.S. Army Reserve soldier, who found herself on the front lines of saving lives in a real-world situation that she won’t soon forget.

Overall, both military men and women are nearly twice as likely to report feeling high levels of stress in their military work (39%) than in their family life (22%), according to the National Library of Medicine. Keesler Air Force Base in Mississippi provides multiple resources for airmen and their families who may need physical or psychological support, including four-legged friends.
