Assistive Technology Device (AT Device)

Definition:

Any item, piece of equipment, or product system, whether acquired commercially, modified, or customized, that is used to increase, maintain, or improve the functional capabilities of individuals with disabilities.  The devices help individuals access computer and telecommunication systems and gain improved access to care and decision making.  Examples include voice recognition and speech output software, assistive listening devices, and augmentative or alternative communication devices.  A list of available devices can be found at www.cap.mil/wsm/solutions/index.aspx.
