Orthopedic Specialist

The Orthopedic Technician Clinical Training Program allows students to further refine their skills in a military or civilian treatment facilities.

Orthopedic technicians specifically focus on the care and treatment of orthopedic patients by:

  • Properly fitting and applying pre- and postoperative braces, crutches, and other soft goods
  • Utilizing proper safety precautions when changing dressings and removing sutures
  • Applying, removing, and modifying casts and splints
  • Assisting with procedures including:
    • Wound care
    • Aspirations
    • Minor surgical procedures
    • Fracture reductions
    • Preparing injection sites
    • Drawing medications
  • Applying traction and orthopedic appliances
  • Instructing patients in cast, splint, and traction care
  • Assisting in the treatment of residual limb patients
