The Director of HRP&O Medical Preparedness Policy represents the ASW(HA) in working with the OSW, the interagency partners, and the National Security Council to plan and prepare for DOW's medical response to naturally occurring or man-made disasters and contingencies at the national level when requested by civilian authorities or directed by the Secretary of War. This work is done in close collaboration with the Office of the Assistant Secretary of War for Homeland Defense and Global Security to ensure DOW's public health and medical response activities are consistent with the Department's policy for conducting Defense Support to Civil Authorities missions. MPP also develops and implements policies within the Military Health System that oversees the MHS response to disasters, public health emergencies, and mass casualty events that occur on or near military installations. The Director, MPP, in collaboration with the Defense Health Agency, assists with developing policy and implementing programs to provide healthcare throughout the MHS to non-DOW beneficiaries and coalition members via specialized programs and international agreements.
