Program Description

Our General Surgery Residency Program offers comprehensive, high-acuity training experience designed to develop technically skilled, clinically astute, and compassionate surgeons. Based at a large academic medical center with diverse affiliated sites, the program provides broad exposure to complex surgical pathology across multiple specialties, including trauma, acute care surgery, oncology, and subspecialty services. Residents benefit from a structured, progressive curriculum that emphasizes operative autonomy, evidence-based practice, and multidisciplinary collaboration, supported by dedicated faculty committed to mentorship and education. In addition to robust clinical training, the program fosters professional development through research opportunities, leadership training, and a strong emphasis on resident wellness. Graduates are well prepared for independent practice or fellowship training in a wide range of surgical disciplines.

Military Affiliation Highlights

The program offers 2 positions per year to USAF applicants and has multiple faculty members with prior military service; notably, the program director is a prior HPSP recipient and an Air Force veteran. The curriculum is highly relevant to military training needs, with dedicated rotations in trauma and acute care surgery, including multiple rotations of trauma experience as well as exposure to critical care, emergency surgery and operative management in high volume settings. Additional opportunities include simulation-based training, research, and leadership development, preparing graduates for both military surgical roles and advanced fellowship training.
