Program Description

The University of Texas Health San Antonio Urology Residency is dedicated to training exceptional urologists and surgeons who excel in both clinical practice and academic research. Our mission is to develop residents with comprehensive expertise in urologic care, mastery of advanced surgical techniques, and a strong commitment to improving patient outcomes. We strive to train graduates who are not only skilled practitioners but also innovative leaders and thinkers in the field of urology. Our program emphasizes the ability to address complex and unique clinical challenges, contribute to cutting-edge research, and advance the field through scholarly activity and education.

Our patient community primarily includes the Hispanic population of San Antonio and Bexar County. Through our partnership with the Bexar County Hospital District—encompassing University Hospital, University Health System, and associated outreach clinics—as well as the UT Health Physicians practice, our residents serve a wide range of patients across varying socioeconomic backgrounds. The mission of our sponsoring institution is to provide comprehensive medical and wellness care to all residents of Bexar County.

Military Affiliation Highlights

Our urology residency program maintains a strong affiliation with the military health care system, offering residents unique exposure to veterans. Residents rotate through VA hospitals and collaborate with military-trained faculty, gaining experience with various patient populations and learning the nuances of care within the VA and Department of War systems.

This affiliation supports residents interested in military service or those seeking to understand the broader scope of urologic care in both civilian and military contexts. In addition, we participate with collaborative training endeavors with San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium urology residency program in San Antonio.
