Q1:
Who is eligible to train in DHA GME programs?
A:
There are two populations that are eligible to train in DHA GME programs:
- Affiliated with a U.S. Uniformed Service:
a. Current Medical Corps officer authorized to apply by their Service
b. Enrolled in the Uniformed Services University School of Medicine, Health Professions Scholarship Program, or Health Services Collegiate Program
- Civilian applicant to one of the few programs that have VA funded position(s) (see Q2, Q3, and Q4 below)
Regardless of the population, applicants must have:
- Graduated from a medical school in the United States or Canada, accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education; or
- Graduated from a college of osteopathic medicine in the United States, accredited by the American Osteopathic Association; or,
- Graduated from a medical school outside of the United States or Canada, and meet one of the following additional qualifications:
a. Hold a currently-valid certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates prior to appointment; or,
b. Hold a full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a United States licensing jurisdiction in his or her current Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education specialty-/subspecialty program
