Staff Sergeant Aaron N. Holleyman lost his life while conducting combat patrols in Khutayiah, Iraq, on August 30, 2004, when the vehicle he was riding in hit a makeshift bomb. Supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom, the 26-year-old Special Forces medical sergeant was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group out of Fort CampĀ­bell, Kentucky. He had been in Iraq on his second tour for less than two months at the time of his death. On September 7, 2004, his funeral took place at the Trinity Baptist Church in Carthage, Mississippi, after which he was buried with full military honors in Monticello Baptist Church Cemetery.
