Sergeant Jeffrey Ross Shaver, an Army National Guard Healthcare Specialist assigned to the 1st Battalion, 161st Infantry Regiment, 81st Brigade Combat Team, Army National Guard, Spokane, Washington, was killed when an improvised explosive device struck his vehicle on May 12, 2004, in Baghdad, Iraq. He had been involved in a humanitar­ian mission at a civilian clinic at the time. On May 29, 2004, a military funeral was held at the Tahoma National Cemetery, Maple Valley, Washington, following his memo­rial service at the Maple Valley Presbyterian Church. An eternal testament to Shaver’s motto of life, engraved on his headstone, is “LOVE AND LIVE LIFE WITH PASSION!”
