Sergeant Ronald W. Baker died on October 13, 2004, of injuries sustained on Octo­ber 7 when a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device detonated near his patrol vehicle in Taji, Iraq. Baker was a medical supply specialist assigned to the 39th Support Battalion, Arkansas Army National Guard, Lonoke, Arkansas. He was buried with mil­itary honors at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock, Arkansas, on October 21, 2004. To honor his memory, his hometown declared the day of his funeral “Sergeant Ronald Baker Day.” He was promoted posthumously to sergeant.
