Sergeant David A. “Alex” Stephens gave his life in service to his country on April 12, 2007, when his vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device during combat operations in Miri, Afghanistan. The 28-year-old medic served with the 2nd Battal­ion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team with the 82nd Air­borne Division, out of Fort Bragg, North Carolina, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. The Tennessee native was laid to rest in Pennington Cemetery in Franklin County, Tennessee.
