Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class Mark R. Cannon was killed in action by a gunshot wound while on patrol in Kunar Province, Afghanistan, on October 2, 2007. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, based out of Marine Corps Base Hawaii. Cannon was buried at Saint Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Lubbock, Texas.
