Spc. Jerod H. Osborne, 20, died July 5, 2010, in Yakuta, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained when insurgents attacked his unit using a makeshift bomb. Osborne, of Royse City, Texas, had previously received a Bronze Star after he saved the lives of several injured civilians following the explosion of a roadside bomb. On the day he died, his body shielded a lieutenant riding in the front of the vehicle during what was described as a similar explosion, his family said.
