Capt. Michael P. Cassidy, 41, died June 17, 2010, in Mosul, Iraq, of injuries sustained from a non-combat related incident. Though he had already served several years in the National Guard, the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, led Cassidy to devote his life to active military service as a medic. Cassidy, of Simpsonville, S.C., was on his second tour in Iraq when he was killed.
