For childbirth support services, beneficiaries must:

• Be enrolled in TRICARE Prime or TRICARE Select
• Be at least 20 weeks pregnant
• See a TRICARE-authorized provider for their birth event

For breastfeeding support services, beneficiaries must: 

• Be enrolled in TRICARE Prime or TRICARE Select
• Be at least 27 weeks pregnant or give birth before 27 weeks
• Qualify for TRICARE’s breastfeeding support benefit

Beneficiaries aren’t eligible if:

• They’re enrolled in TRICARE For Life, US Family Health Plan, or the Continued Health Care Benefit Program.
• They plan to give birth in a military hospital or clinic. 
• They plan to give birth with an uncertified midwife.

For childbirth, TRICARE will cover:

• Up to six visits by a certified labor doula. Visits can be before or after the beneficiary gives birth.
• Continuous support for one birth event.

For breastfeeding, TRICARE’s breastfeeding support services have expanded to include:

• Six sessions with a certified, non-medical lactation counselor or consultant
• Group breastfeeding counseling.

There are no cost-shares, copayments, or deductibles for covered breastfeeding counseling services. Additional charges may apply for out-of-network services.
