The Medical Surveillance Monthly Report—or MSMR—published continually since 1995, is the peer-reviewed journal of the Armed Forces Health Surveillance Division. For more than 30 years, MSMR has transformed complex military health data into credible, actionable information for clinicians, commanders, public health professionals, and policy-makers. MSMR publishes monthly reports describing the incidence, distribution, impact, or trends of illness and injuries among members of the U.S. Armed Forces and other beneficiaries of the Military Health System.

The August 2026 issue of MSMR presents the annual report on diagnoses of mental health disorders among U.S. active component service members, 2021-2025; with a related report on trends in postpartum depression and anxiety diagnoses among U.S. active component service women, 2010-2024; complemented by a report on chronic insomnia and military separation: a retrospective matched cohort and nested case-control study of U.S. active component service members, 2014-2023; followed by a report on 2025-2026 mid-season influenza virus genetic characterizations in U.S. Department of War populations; and concludes with a first quarter 2026 summary of the most frequent reportable medical events within the Military Health System.
