Mild Traumatic Brain Injury

Definition:

The diagnosis of mild traumatic brain injury also known as concussion is made when two conditions are met.  In the absence of documentation, both conditions are based on self-report information.

  1. An injury event must have occurred.
  2. The individual must have experienced a normal structural neuroimaging by head computed tomography (CT) or conventional brain Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and one of the following:

Alteration of consciousness lasting less than 24 hours. Loss of consciousness, if any, lasting for less than 30 minutes.Memory loss after the event, called post-traumatic amnesia, for events immediately surrounding the injury that lasts for less than 24 hours.
