Mandated by the 2009 National Defense Authorization Act, the EACE Global Health Engagement Division (GHED) was created to implement a comprehensive plan and strategy for the Department of Defense (DOD) and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to mitigate, treat, and rehabilitate traumatic extremity injuries by collaborating globally with institutions of higher education and other appropriate agencies.
Our Mission
The EACE GHED supports Geographic Combatant Commands (GCC) during interactions between individuals or elements of the DOD and those of a Partner Nation’s (PN’s) armed forces or civilian authorities, in conjunction with other U.S. Government departments and agencies, to build trust and confidence, share information, coordinate mutual activities, maintain influence, and achieve interoperability in amputee and extremity trauma related activities that support GCC Theater Security Cooperation and Theater Campaign Plans.
What We Do
- Perform in-country assessments of host nation (HN) amputee and extremity trauma capabilities at the request of and in conjunction with GCC representatives.
- Provide comprehensive plans to enhance or develop those capabilities based on the assessment, the GCC requirements and the partner nation requests.
- Provide support and coordination for clinical subject matter expert engagement/exchanges aligned with approved plans.
- Assist in coordination of Secretary of Defense Designee approved care at DOD Advanced Rehabilitation Centers (ARC’s).
- Assist in coordination for partner nation (PN) clinicians attending medical education in the United States under the International Medical Training (IMT) Program.
- Act as subject matter expert resource for GCC with requests to purchase supplies and equipment for PNs.
- Act as resource for GCCs for all issues concerning amputee and extremity trauma care.
