Military Health System Centers of Excellence were established to provide the Department of Defense with the ability to speed the advancement of our scientific knowledge and evidence-based practices for diagnosis and treatment of diseases and conditions that impact our military personnel and their families with the help of a “critical mass” of experts.
CHAMP carries out and translates research to improve service member performance in the field and returning to duty. CHAMP aims to be DoD’s best resource for evidence-based information on human performance optimization to improve the performance and resilience of our service members and their families.
DVCIPM is the DOW’s designated Consortium of Excellence for Pain Management and serves as the central pain management advisory organization for pain management policy, research, and education & training.
The EACE leads the advancement of extremity trauma related discovery and clinical practice to optimize outcomes of service members, veterans, and beneficiaries while meeting the needs of the Combatant Commands and the Military Health System. The EACE is committed to ensuring a better future for those with extremity trauma.
The Defense Health Agency's Hearing Center of Excellence works to improve hearing and balance health.
The mission of the Joint Trauma System is to improve trauma readiness and outcomes through evidence-driven performance improvement. The JTS vision is that every Soldier, Sailor, Airman and Marine injured on the battlefield or in any theater of operations will be provided with the optimum chance for survival and maximum potential for functional recovery.
The John P. Murtha Cancer Center is a modern, patient-centric, multi-service military health care facility. Its comprehensive core of military and civilian oncologists and other cancer-trained clinicians and researchers provide multidisciplinary cancer-care delivery and patient and family support services.
As the only DOD Cancer Center of Excellence in the Military Health System, we offer access to cutting-edge cancer diagnostic and treatment technologies. Our world-class care is augmented by a strong core of translational research to facilitate optimal access to evidence-based clinical practices and high-priority clinical cancer trials.
We are dedicated to improving the lives of patients and families affected by traumatic brain injury through collaborative efforts with patients, families, referring providers, and researchers. Since opening on June 24, 2010, in Bethesda, Maryland, we've established a reputation for excellence in TBI and brain health clinical care, research, and education.
The Psychological Health Center of Excellence is one of the Centers of Excellence within the Research and Engineering Directorate of the Defense Health Agency. PHCoE collaborates across the Department of Defense and with the Department of Veterans Affairs and other agencies to provide leadership and expertise to inform policy and drive improvements in psychological health outcomes.
TBICoE supports the MHS and DHA with traumatic brain injury research initiatives, including gap-driven analyses and congressionally directed programs such as the 15-year longitudinal study of TBI and an investigation into the effects of blast exposure on Warfighter Brain Health and Performance.
The VCE was created by Congress through the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2008 to address military eye injuries. This includes:

- Vision problems linked to traumatic brain injury
