Currently, there are no medicines approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to stop or treat hearing loss or ringing in the ears (tinnitus). Some new treatments are currently being tested. We have a working group called Pharmaceutical Interventions for Hearing Loss, or PIHL, to help advance this research.
This group includes experts from the military, veterans' hospitals, schools, and businesses, and they discuss:
- What's happening in research, including new studies and tests.
- How to properly conduct research.
- What technology is needed to support the military.
The PIHL group also sets up smaller teams to focus on specific topics.
